
Making Bathroom Heaters That Don’t Blind You
When we started designing infrared lamps for bathrooms, we ran into a pretty annoying problem. Most standard heaters use halogen tubes that basically act like spotlights. They blast this harsh, blinding light that’s a total nightmare for your eyes—and it’s even worse for babies, whose eyes are way more sensitive than ours. Nobody wants to feel like they’re under an interrogation lamp while they’re trying to dry off. The trick is in the light. We decided to change how the lamp actually emits energy. Instead of just letting all that bright light fly out, we use special quartz coatings and specific filaments to shift the focus. We push the energy into the long-wave infrared band. In plain English? You get all the cozy warmth without the glare. It’s not about making the light “pretty” or “moody”—it’s about making sure you can actually look in the direction of the heater without squinting or hurting your eyes. Getting the heat just right. Then there’s the physical setup. We use a reflector to push the heat straight down. But this is a balancing act. If the lamp is too low, you’re going to get burned. Too high, and the heat just disappears into the room before it ever reaches you. We spend a lot of time tuning that “sweet spot” so the warmth feels steady and comfortable right where you need it. The trade-offs. Now, here’s the honest part: filtering out that light does come with a small cost. You lose a tiny bit of raw heating power because the coating holds some of it back. But in a home bathroom, that’s a trade we’ll make every single time. Safety beats raw wattage. Plus, since bathrooms are basically steam rooms, we make sure the housing can handle the humidity. If moisture gets into the electrical contacts, the whole thing burns out way too fast. We build them to last, even in the dampest rooms.
