
Why we basically try to kill our bathroom heaters before you buy them
Let’s be honest: bathrooms are a nightmare for electronics. One minute it’s freezing cold, and the next, you’ve turned the place into a sauna. That thick, heavy steam doesn’t just hang in the air—it finds every tiny gap, sneaks past the seals, and goes straight for the electrical guts of your heater. We don’t like guessing if a heater will hold up. Instead, we throw them into a climate chamber and try to force them to fail.
The battle between steam and quartz
Most of these wall heaters rely on infrared quartz tubes. Now, quartz is great with heat, but the spot where the wires meet the glass? That’s the danger zone. If that seal is off by even a tiny fraction, moisture crawls inside. Once that happens, the tungsten filament starts to oxidize. When that filament hits 2000°C while damp?**Pop.**It burns out instantly.
How we put them through the wringer
We put every single batch through “damp-heat aging.” In plain English, we soak them in high humidity and then blast them with heat, over and over. We’re looking for “creepage”—that’s when moisture creates a little bridge for electricity to travel where it shouldn’t. We keep a close eye on a few things: ***The terminals:**We make sure they aren’t corroding, which would just kill the efficiency. ***The seals:**We check if the bond between the glass and metal can handle the constant expanding and shrinking. ***The insulation:**We make sure the electricity stays put, even when the air is thick with steam.
The trade-off (and why it’s worth it)
Here’s the thing: doing this properly takes up space. To get the kind of heavy-duty sealing and gaskets that actually work, the heater has to be a bit bulkier. It’s not as “slim” as some of the cheap alternatives you’ll see online. But you’re trading a few millimeters of chassis space for a heater that won’t trip your circuit breaker three months into winter. To us, that’s a no-brainer. We’d rather have a slightly larger unit than a failed one. If a seal doesn’t hold up during our tests, the product is scrap. Period.
