They take up way too much space and just aren&amp;rsquo;t efficient anymore. Instead, we&amp;rsquo;ve been using short-wave infrared (IR) lamps.&#xA;Here&amp;rsquo;s the trick: instead of heating up all the air around the wood, IR goes straight for the water. It vibrates the molecules inside the fibers, forcing the moisture out much faster. It&amp;rsquo;s a cleaner, quicker way to work.&#xA;&lt;strong&gt;The Power Side of Things&lt;/strong&gt;&#xA;When you&amp;rsquo;ve got a conveyor line moving, you can&amp;rsquo;t afford to be timid with your power. You need a lot of wattage packed into every millimeter. We usually go with high-voltage tubes. Why? Because it keeps the current under control while still pumping out the heat you need.&#xA;But a word of warning: don&amp;rsquo;t cheap out on your wiring. If you&amp;rsquo;re running a high-wattage array, your control panels need to handle the surge. If you under-spec the wires, you&amp;rsquo;ll end up burning out your contactors, and that&amp;rsquo;s a headache nobody wants on a Tuesday morning.&#xA;&lt;strong&gt;The Gear&lt;/strong&gt;&#xA;We use quartz glass for the envelopes because it can handle the shock of being turned on and off rapidly without cracking.&#xA;For the connectors, we stick with R7s or Sk15. They aren&amp;rsquo;t fancy, but they&amp;rsquo;re reliable. If a lamp blows, you can swap it out in a few minutes and get the line moving again. No need to rewire the whole rack.&#xA;We also add a special coating to the quartz. This shifts the heat so it actually sinks deep into the wood rather than just scorching the surface. It&amp;rsquo;s the difference between a perfectly dried board and one that&amp;rsquo;s just burnt on the outside.&#xA;&lt;strong&gt;Making it &amp;ldquo;Smart&amp;rdquo;&lt;/strong&gt;&#xA;The best part about these lamps is how they react. They respond almost instantly to voltage changes. You can hook them up to a PLC-controlled SCR, which lets you tweak the heat on the fly depending on what kind of wood you&amp;rsquo;re running or what your moisture sensors are telling you.&#xA;Plus, there is one thing to keep in mind: the heat is intense.&#xA;Since you&amp;rsquo;re replacing a giant oven with concentrated lamps, that heat stays localized. You&amp;rsquo;ve got to get your cooling fans and shielding just right. If you don&amp;rsquo;t, your automation sensors will overheat, trip out, and shut your whole line down.&lt;/p&gt;</description>
